​Benjamin Wier House
​Rooted in Halifax's maritime heritage, Metcalf & Company was founded in 1986 in the historic Benjamin Wier House on the Halifax waterfront, our firm began in a setting that reflects the city’s enduring connections to commerce and the sea. Named for Benjamin Wier—a merchant who operated a fleet of schooners between Nova Scotia and New England and later served as a Senator upon Confederation in 1867 —the house and its heritage designation captured our commitment to maritime trade, legal excellence and the preservation of Halifax’s built heritage. Its proximity to Government House and the working harbour reinforced our identity at the intersection of law, policy, and maritime enterprise.
